On Friday 30th November, Angela from the CLC came in to teach us how to use the Final Cut Express programme. It was very interesting as some of the techniques and effects on it were very different to iMovie, which also made it quite difficult to use. Most of the effects are very fascinating and a lot different from iMovie which made learning about a new editing software very interesting. Although it was quite challenging to understand, in time I think I will get use to it and Angela was a great help!
Last week my media group went to Southbank (BFI) to learn about the A2 Media Studies coursework side (music videos). It was very interesting and I learnt quite a lot of things that I didn't know. We also met Corin Hardy - a director for music videos. There was a Q&A session were we got to ask him questions and he also showed us music videos that he directed, for example, Devlin ft Ed Sheraan - Watchtower.
Voyeurism - Voyeurism is the sexual interest in or practice of spying on people engaged in intimate behaviours, such as undressing, sexual activity, or other actions usually considered to be of a private nature, for example, watching something/somebody without the person being watched knowing.
In this picture an onlooker is watching two men engage in an intimate moment.
Last year my group and I used storyboarding to help with our opening for our film. We thought it was helpful in terms of planning out what we were going to do for specific scenes and how long (seconds) we were going to film for. This has helped us because we are now using it again in A2 for our music videos.
Delilah - Never Be Another - We decided to pick this song as it didn't have a music video, and we agreed that it was beneficial because we could use our own ideas, even though ideas from an actual music would have been good too! We also liked the pace and the lyrics of the song. By putting these two together it helped us come up with several ideas in terms of the editing, location and mainly the concept of the video.
This is an advert showing that the decisions you make can impact your life massively and teenage pregnancy is common in this generation. This advert can help us with some ideas for our music video - in terms of the different paths you take can lead you to be in a good or bad place.
We chose this video because we like the way that the young girl's life is shaped simply by the decisions she makes, and the path she decides to go down.
Good points:
Different path leads to different road - good vs. bad
Slow - it will be beneficial in terms of lip syncing (good speed)
Have a lot of ideas to choose from (narrative)
Bad points:
Male vocalist - so it may be difficult
Hard to find different locations to shoot different scenes
We chose this video as an inspiration for our music video because we like the idea of the runaway posters and the different situations the characters are in.
Good points:
Female vocalist so it wont be as difficult if it was a male vocalist.
We can take ideas from the music video e.g. posters.
We also like the idea that we don't see the rapper because he's in the background and we only see the character acting (narrative)
Bad points:
Difficult to find a location for the video.
Female only sings the chorus - male dominates most of the song
In this video I like the costume the dancers and Rihanna are wearing, and I also like the setting/location. I really like the pace and beat of the song. This song is also a feel good, summer tune!
The song in this music video is really catchy, but I also like the effects used and most of all I really like the rapper, and her style - clothing wise. The special effects makes the video creative and adds a little more to the video.
I really like this video because of all the effects and all the colours used. I also like the background with the different images. I think the idea behind the video is very creative.
